If your spring just snapped or your door is stuck, here’s the short version: stop using the door, don’t force the opener, and call a technician. A garage door spring holds hundreds of pounds of tension, and forcing a door with a broken spring is how people get hurt and how small repairs turn into expensive ones.
Check for these 2 thing before Calling:
One sensor should display a solid green light, while the other is typically amber. If either light is off or blinking, the sensors may be misaligned, dirty, or not receiving power.
If the door starts closing but immediately reverses, the safety sensors may be blocked or out of alignment. Remove any objects in front of the sensors and gently clean the lenses with a soft cloth.

Torsion and extension springs. The most common failure in our climate, and the one you should never DIY. Hear a loud bang from the garage? That’s almost always a spring.

Frayed or snapped lift cables. These fail nearly as often as springs in hot, dry weather and are just as unsafe to leave.

That grinding, rattling, “baby-rattle” sound is usually worn roller bearings. A cheap fix if you catch it early.

Door reverses, won’t close without holding the button, or stops halfway. Usually a misaligned or dirty photo-eye sensor.
